World 400m champion to compete in London as she works towards Beijing World Championships

Christine Ohuruogu is set to join the likes of Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford in competing at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games taking place in London's former Olympic Stadium from July 24-26.

The British 400m record-holder is working towards this summer's IAAF World Championships in Beijing where she will hope to retain the one-lap title she won for the second time in Moscow two years ago. The 30-year-old considers the Anniversary Games an important test coming just four weeks ahead of the championships.

"The Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games will be quite instrumental for me," explained Ohuruogu. "I'll be looking to try and get everything right a month out to Beijing.

"It will be a really good indication of where I am. If things aren't quite right I’ll have time to fix them, so it’s an important race."

The 2008 Olympic champion claimed victory at the 2013 Sainsbury's Anniversary Games before running her 49.41 British record when getting gold in Moscow a few weeks later.

"London in 2013 was a real decider for me going into Moscow," said the Newham & Essex Beagle. "The event was really good, especially because I won. It was great to be back in the stadium and the crowd was just like it had been the year before.

"It’s great for me as an athlete to have that support. You’ve got tens of thousands of people watching, so it will be a really big nice send off into the world championships."

The Anniversary Games event incorporates the two-day Diamond League meeting on July 24-25 and the Sainsbury's IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final which takes place on July 26.
