Jonnie Peacock to miss world title defence
Jonnie Peacock has said that he is "extremely disappointed" after it was announced that he will not be competing at next month's IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha.
The 22-year-old, who added the world T44 100m title to his Paralympic gold two years ago, has been advised against the defence of his title after suffering with a leg injury.
"Unfortunately I’ve had an ongoing problem with a sore on my leg, which will rule me out for the rest of the season," said Peacock.
"It’s something that I’ve been managing but it’s now got to the point where I’ve been advised not to run on it.
"I’m extremely disappointed as this means I’ll be unable to defend my IPC World Championship title."
The sprinter, who also won European gold in Swansea last year, had recently beaten his American rival Richard Browne at the Great North CityGames, which had followed another win in Brussels just the night before.
"These decisions are never easy but I have to think of the long term effects and give it the rest it needs," Peacock added.
"It will be tough being on the sidelines but I’m sure it will be a great event and I’ll be cheering on the team from the UK."
