British 100km champ one of nine British athletes named on the GB team for event in Doha

Steve Way will pull on the GB vest for the first time in Doha, Qatar, in November as he competes as one of nine British athletes at the IAU 100km World Championships.

The 40-year-old set a marathon personal best of 2:15:16 when finishing tenth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow at the end of last month and will go into the event as the national 100km champion having run a personal best 6:19:20 in Gravesend in May.

Way will be joined on the four-strong men's team by Paul Martelletti, who ran 6:57:22 for 100km in Belfast earlier this year. The 35-year-old also has a marathon best of 2:16:49 and won the national 50km title in 2012.

Ellie Greenwood is on the five-strong GB women's team and will travel to Doha fresh from becoming the first British woman to win the Comrades Marathon in June. Also on the team is Jo Zakrzewski, who won world 100km silver in 2011. More recently she finished 14th in the Commonwealths marathon. Sue Harrison, Emily Gelder and Jo Meek join them in Qatar.
