The Olympic hammer champion adds 69cm to her record in Warsaw

Less than two weeks after breaking her own world hammer record at the Rio Olympic Games, Anita Wlodarczyk improved it again, this time to 82.98m at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Warsaw.

The two-time world champion is the only woman to have thrown over 80 metres and Wlodarczyk has now done so in five competitions, her mark in Warsaw adding 69cm to her previous best.

The Polish thrower competes wearing the glove used by Skolimowska, the 2000 Olympic champion who died after a pulmonary embolism aged just 29.

Sophie Hitchon had also made history in Rio as she became the first British Olympic hammer medallist since 1924 after throwing a national record of 74.54m for bronze.

In Warsaw the 25-year-old had another fine performance as she threw 72.42m behind Wlodarczyk's world record-breaking mark.

Other British athletes in action in Poland included Dina Asher-Smith, who ran 11.28 to win the 100m from USA's Barbara Pierre, and Richard Kilty, who clocked 10.38 to finish fourth in a 100m won by Jamaica's Julian Forte in 10.09.

Poland's world champion Pawel Fajdek won the men's hammer competition with a throw of 82.47m.
