Athletes at events across the country pay tribute to the two teenagers with black ribbons and moments of silence

Athletes paid tribute to Aldershot, Farnham and District runners Lucy Pygott and Stacey Burrows at events across the country on Saturday.

The two talented teenage athletes died on Tuesday evening after being struck by a car while training in Aldershot.

Moments of silence were held at events including the Hampshire Cross Country League match in Bournemouth and the British Athletics Cross Challenge fixture in Milton Keynes, while many athletes also wore black ribbons in tribute.

In Bournemouth, despite no longer running himself, the Aldershot, Farnham and District head coach Mick Woods (pictured below left, with Louise Small and Zippy Grice) completed a lap of the course in memory of his two athletes, while many AFD runners ran and finished their races together.

A minute of silence is also planned for Sunday's Cross de Atapuerca in Spain, where Pygott had been due to race for England.
