National governing body is looking for athlete representatives to "help inform and provide feedback on UKA anti-doping policy and practice"

UK Athletics (UKA) has released details of an anti-doping athlete sub-group for which the national governing body is looking to recruit representatives.

The purpose of the group - which UKA says is likely to consist of between eight and 15 athlete members in addition to the anti-doping education coordinator, the UK anti-doping athletes committee athletics representative and the UKA policy and support team athlete representative - is to "help inform and provide feedback on UKA anti-doping policy and practice".

The governing body states that the aims of the athlete sub-group are:

» To provide a forum for open debate on anti-doping strategy and issues of concern to the anti-doping programme for athletics in the UK, with a view to developing policy recommendations
» To promote an open exchange of views, ideas and concerns between athletes both in terms of athlete level and geographic areas
» To assist the development of an excellent anti-doping programme for athletics in the UK specifically, but not exclusive to, anti-doping education
» To work for the promotion of drug free sport in general and the UKA programme specifically

Meetings are set to take place twice annually, with positions on the athlete sub-group on an honorary unpaid basis. UKA states that the term of office will initially be for two years.

The governing body published its 'Manifesto for Clean Athletics' on Monday (January 11), with the document prompting much debate with its proposals including resetting world records, issuing longer bans for serious doping offences and the introduction of a public global register of all drugs tests.
